Kim Kardashian Regie BushReality TV star Kim Kardashian and boyfriend Reggie Bush were in Botswana getting a first-hand look at the diamond industry in Africa, travelling to the continent as representatives of Russell Simmons' Diamond Empowerment Fund.De Beers spokeswoman Lynette Gould confirmed to National Jeweler that Kardashian and the New Orleans Saints running back are in Africa on behalf of the DEF, along with Kardashian's sister Khloe, former football player Ray Crockett, who earned two Super Bowl rings as a cornerback with the Denver Broncos, and DEF Executive Director Ellen Haddigan. According to the DEF Web site, the trip includes stops in the diamond-producing nations of Botswana and South Africa. Launched in 2007 with the support of music mogul Simmons' owner of Simmons Jewelry Co., the DEF is a non-profit international organization that raises money to support educational initiatives for economically disadvantaged people in African nations were diamonds are a natural resource. The Diamond Empowerment Fund's first beneficiary is the Community and Individual Development Association City Campus, an institution of higher learning located in Johannesburg, South Africa, that provides scholarships to financially disadvantaged students.
