| Malaika perform, L |
Savibes.com, learnt that L’vovo Derrango was stopped from travelling to the UK in Dubai, where he was on transit with Malaika. He was detained by the immigration authorities in Dubai, for almost two days for not having his original work permit on him. It is normal for promoters to send copies rather than the originals to the artists, before they travel. Malaika were let through after being harassed, L’vovo was eventually returned to South Africa, after the South African embassy in Dubai, and the promoter, failed to resolve the issue. SAvibes caught up with Malaika, to try and get the complete story of what transpired. “It was disgusting. We’ve been touring around the world for a long time now, and we did not expect a treatment like that, especially from a place like Dubai. The authorities there were very unprofessional. I mean; how can they even go to the extent of making sexual remarks to our dancers? L’vovo derrango and his crew were right behind us when we finally made it through. We could not believe what we were being subjected to, because Tony Ndlovu (promoter) had done everything for us, the way it should have been done” said the Malaika manager Stacey Gule. Fans of L’vovo Derrango were not pleased by his absence at the show. One of the fans told savibes; “We are very disappointed that he is not here. Although Malaika have done their best, to perform for as long as they did, it is not the same concert anymore. We are very lucky that he was performing with such a great group, other wise things would have been different.” Malaika’s new Album. Malaika performed songs from their new album ‘Sekunjalo’, on stage at the Stratford Rex. I spoke to Bongani, to find out more about it. “Sekunjalo- is a wonderful redention of music based on our experiences and growth musically. Malaika has advanced to producing. Thay have produced 10 of the 16 songs in the album. We have a lot of tracks and had to cut them to fit into one album”, said Bongani Nchang. “Each song has a different feeling. There are songs for dancing, motivation, and focussing on social-ills”. Set as favorite Bookmark Email this Comments (0) ![]() Write comment Newer news items:
